Battle mechanics and losses

Learn how Tyrians calculates combat strength, morale, defence bonuses, siege damage and troop losses when attacking and defending settlements.

Battle strength

A battle begins when the attacker reaches an enemy settlement. Rams weaken the wall, catapults bombard buildings and ordinary troops fight; the spy encounter is evaluated separately. After the battle, the winner plunders resources, and a surviving marshal may reduce authority. Every unit has an attack value and three defence values: against infantry, cavalry and archers. The attack type of a mixed force depends on its composition, and the defender's values are weighted by the share of attacking categories.

Bonuses

Attack is modified by morale, luck, premium, the alliance tower and combat artifacts. Defence is modified by the wall, night, Unity Monument, premium, the alliance Altar of Honour and artifacts. Defence doubles at night, from 00:00 to 08:00 Lithuanian time.

Siege and losses

Rams reduce the wall's benefit during the battle and may lower its level afterward. Spy combat is calculated before ordinary army combat. A marshal dies if sent into battle without an escort or if the attacker loses at least half of all troops sent. During the battle, catapults bombard one randomly selected building in the enemy settlement and may lower its level. Demolition effectiveness depends on the number of attacking catapults, the building's level and the defenders' losses. The city wall cannot be a catapult target. The mill can only be reduced to a level whose capacity still accommodates the population remaining after the battle, including the owner's troops away from home and training and construction queues. If its level cannot be safely reduced, the mill remains undamaged and no other target is chosen. A surviving marshal attempts to conquer the settlement. A successful conquest consumes one marshal, leaves the other troops guarding the settlement and takes no loot. If the settlement is not conquered, surviving victorious troops return with unprotected resources as loot. Building damage changes settlement points and maximum authority. Exact calculations and the simulator are available in Combat Help.
